Shoulder pain - the most mobile joint is also very flexible in its complaints
Whether for sport, for a wide range of professional tasks or simply for everyday activities, including simply lying down in bed at night, the shoulder joint and the circular arm movements possible from the shoulder are very important for performance and quality of life. Shoulder pain restricts us in this respect. Due to its refined anatomical structure, the shoulder in particular offers flexibility in the circular arm movements.
The shoulder joint is more important for movement than any other joint in the human body. You will probably feel all the worse and more restricted if you experience symptoms such as shoulder pain when moving or lying down as well as radiating and perhaps even stabbing pain down into the arms. This also applies, of course, if you experience tension in your shoulder and subsequent problems due to the posture you often adopt.

Shoulder problems affect young and older patients alike
The special anatomical construction of the shoulder joint makes it particularly mobile, but at the same time particularly vulnerable. The head of the humerus is not located in a deep joint socket, as is typical for the hip joint, for example. Instead, it is held in the optimal position primarily by a complicated system of muscles, tendons and ligaments. This means that even in young people, the wrong strain - for example through an ergonomically unfavorable workplace or during recreational sports - can be enough to cause shoulder pain or perhaps even worse shoulder problems.
A wide variety of causes are possible
In principle, most shoulder pain is due either to the joint capsule or to tendons, ligaments, muscles or the bursa and the surrounding soft tissue. The causes can be very different changes, incorrect loading, wear and tear or injuries.
Muscular imbalances are often the cause!
As a qualified specialist in orthopedics and osteopathy, with many years of practical experience, as well as a surgical orthopedic surgeon, I have particularly often discovered a fundamental cause in my work. Chronic pain and movement disorders in the shoulder area are often caused by muscular imbalances. They result from incorrect loading or overloading. In connection with disorders of the cervical spine or unfavorable movement patterns and in some cases even in close interaction with visceral causes from the liver, bile or stomach. The combination of such functional disorders can result in complex stress, which can then lead to very painful muscle cramps, fascia shortening and active trigger points. This goes so far that it can lead to chronic bursitis, irritation or inflammation of the joint capsule or even tendonitis or tendon irritation of the rotator cuff. Early intervention is very important here to avoid permanent damage.
Shoulder complaints can take many different forms
The spectrum of shoulder problems begins with the widespread primary myofascial dysfunction of the shoulder and neck region mentioned above, through impingement syndrome, in which tendon material is pinched, often combined with irritation of the bursa, and extends to tears in the rotator cuff or osteoarthritis of the shoulder shoulder joint. Shoulder injuries caused by accidents and their subsequent health effects can be particularly serious here. As examples of particularly stressful and long-term diseases of the shoulder, I can give you damage or tears to the so-called rotator cuff and frozen shoulder. The latter is often referred to in medicine as frozen shoulder and always has a lengthy course, but can be easily influenced by some treatment techniques from osteopathy and other alternative forms of therapy.
Early and prudent therapy opens up opportunities
To explain to you the great opportunity, but also the central challenge of treating shoulder pain with the appropriate figurative expression: pain, restricted movement and discomfort in the shoulder should never be taken lightly. This is because an existing condition can worsen continuously and quickly become chronic if treatment is not provided. However, shoulder pain and shoulder problems in particular can be treated effectively and usually over the long term if a sound diagnosis is made at an early stage.
Our orthopaedic practice in Freiburg offers a variety of different regenerative therapy methods for this purpose. The main goal for the individual patient is always to become pain-free and no longer be restricted in their everyday life.
-
In our carefully developed holistic therapy concept with proven conventional medical treatments and modern regenerative healing methods from the field of sports orthopaedics and movement medicine, we start with precise diagnostics. This is particularly important due to the complex structures of the shoulder joint.
-
The parallel diagnostic examination and treatment of the cervical spine can be of central importance. This is because in many cases, pain can radiate from the shoulder and neck muscles, including their trigger points, down to the shoulders and arms.
-
For your shoulder treatment in our specialist orthopaedic practice, we have proven and effective therapy options from regenerative orthopaedics, chirotherapy, osteopathy and modern conventional medicine, with the help of which we repeatedly achieve convincing results, especially in cases of frozen shoulder.
-
The aim of regenerative orthopaedics is to activate the body's own self-healing process and initiate regenerative processes in order to restore healthy and resilient tissue. For example, we use focussed shock wave therapy, laser therapy, repetitive peripheral muscle stimulation (RPMS), extracorporeal magnetotransduction therapy (EMTT), cryotherapy, prolotherapy and anti-inflammatory injections of the body's own biologically active platelet-rich plasma (regenerative injections).
-
Last but not least, acupuncture and shock wave therapy must also be included in the circle of the most effective and gentle shoulder treatments. The former can offer you benefits by specifically influencing shoulder pain, while the latter is particularly recommended for calcific shoulder pain, myofascial causes of pain, active trigger points, sports injuries to the shoulder such as rotator cuff tears or partial tears of the supraspinatus or infraspinatus tendon, impingement syndrome and degenerative changes to the shoulder
